McKay got Australia off to the perfect start but it wasn’t enough

A top order collapse in the fourth ODI of the Natwest series 2013 meant Australia were fighting an uphill battle to maintain their 1-0 lead after being put into bat. However, a gritty 87 from George Bailey coupled with two cameos from Adam Voges and Matthew Wade helped the visitors finish on 227.

Defending that was always going to be difficult and if they were to have any chance, Australia needed early wickets. And Clint McKay supplied just that. Not one, not two but three wickets. In his second over, the Aussie fast bowler got rid of Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and Joe Root off the first three balls to leave England reeling at 8/3.

At the end of his spell, he had done his bit with figures of 10-3-39-4. However, figures from Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler meant England got home in the final over with three wickets and three balls to spare.
