The East and Central African team took the place of the East African team and stayed as an associate member of the ICC for 14 years before the formation of 4 teams who were playing together under the name of East and Central Africa. This African team had played its first ever match against Denmark in 1990 but exited the ICC in 2003.

The West African team was a union of 4 African nations namely Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone and was the associate member of the ICC from 1976 to 2003. Later on, it was replaced by the individual teams of the above 4 countries with Sierra Leone being the latest to be awarded the status of an associate member.
