8 "IPL Heroes" who never made it big

Since the beginning of the Indian Premier League, there have been many players from the league teams that has shown potential to play world-class cricket. But they were a flop in the international circuit. Let’s look at the county heroes that are zeroes in the international circuit.

Murali Vijay

This man got many opportunities he should not have really got. Yet he was a complete failure. And the selectors chose him just because he hit a 146 against Rajasthan?? Never has he hit more than 75 runs even as an opener in the 30-odd games that he played in. His economy and strike rate are terribly low for an International batsmen. And out of these ’30-odd games’ India might have lost 20 of them.

Yusuf Pathan

The big-hitter failed to make an impact or hit any big shots in international cricket like he did while playing for Rajasthan Royals and the kolkata Knight Riders. He may have hit a century but that was against a depleted New Zealand side. His heroics against South Africa will be remembered but then he has failed to score runs consistently after that series. Firstly, he should learn, how to play defensive strokes and manage to tackle bouncers.

Manoj Tiwary

Played for Delhi Dare Devils and Kolkata Knightriders. He is a talented batsman but he finds it difficult to adapt on the away conditions. He did not feature much in the tour to West Indies and England. But he should be given more chances because he has the potential to become a star batman.

Saurabh Tiwary

Playing for Mumbai Indians, he has an immense talent in his gloves. But he is just a T20 specialist. He may be good for one-dayers but can’t survive in Test Cricket. The Jharkhand skipper has to work a lot on his abilities as he is prone to get bowled out on mostly yorkers.

Vinay Kumar

This man was an absolute flop. From his debut, he failed to make an impact. The selectors gambled for him and also paid a heavy price by losing heavily to England on their grass. Just taking 4 wickets against a team in an IPL match, doesn’t make a player valuable. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, he was made an overnight star for just one day. His pace is also not worth mentioning because he bowls at a speed of 115 kph. Let me ask the Indian selectors a question. Is Vinay Kumar really a pace bowler???

Piyush Chawla

He should have been given a razzie award for the worst performance in the world cup. Every batsmen seemed to hit his ball tirelessly. He may have been the most economical bowler for Kings XI Punjab but for team India, its just the opposite. He was just included in the team because Dhoni influenced the selectors decision.

Ravindra Jadeja

I liked his all-round skills when he played for India u-19 which they won. Then he was in his primary best during his stint with Rajasthan Royals in IPL. But sadly, he was seldom best in internationals one-dayers except for his good bowling in bad conditions. His highest score was against a depleted West Indies side when there was no Gayle, no Sarwan and no good pacer bowlers. Remember, he was the reason for India’s loss in 2009 T20 match. He may have been good in the recently concluded one-dayers against England but the visitors were without Stuart Broad or James Anderson which gave him a slight advantage over them.

Shikhar Dhawan

He was the next big thing. He was considered to be a test batsman adapting to the conditions and also hit big shots that go over the boundary. That’s how he played for Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers. Sadly, he also became a test batsman in one-day internationals and T20′s. His economy in international circuit is one of the worst figures around.

So selectors, please take note. A nice proverb for you. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Please select a player by his playing skills and let him play more matches. Don’t take him by the account of his heroics in an IPL season.
