The most awaited summer extravaganza starts just a week from now. Let’s relive some of the statistical figures of interest from the past 7 editions.
Most runs – Chris Gayle of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Michael Hussey of Chennai Super Kings share the record for scoring most number of runs in a single season of the IPL (Orange Cap winners). Gayle and Hussey had scored 733 runs in the 2012 and 2013 editions of the IPL respectively.
Most Wickets – Dwayne Bravo of CSK is the only bowler to win the Purple Cap with more than 30 wickets to his name in a single season of the IPL. He claimed 32 wickets in the 2013 edition. Pragyan Ojha of Deccan Chargers won the Purple Cap claiming the least among the Purple Cap winner when he claimed 21 wickets in the 2010 edition of the IPL.
Most Sixes – Chris Gayle of RCB holds the record for scoring the most number of sixes in single season of the IPL. He had hit 59 maximums in the 2012 season of the IPL.
Best Bowling Figures – Sohail Tanvir’s best bowling figures of 6/14 have not been broken right since the first edition of the IPL. The next best stands at 5/5 as claimed by Anil Kumble in the second edition.
Difference in best batting scores – The biggest difference between the first and second Individual scores in a single IPL edition is that of 74 runs, with the record held by Chris Gayle. He had scored 175* for RCB and the next best score stood at 101* by David Miller for King’s XI Punjab. The next biggest difference stands at 41 runs between Brendon McCullum and Andrew Symonds in the 1st edition of the IPL.
Best Economy – Ravichandran Ashwin of CSK holds the record for the best economy rate in a single season of the IPL. He conceded only 3.25RPO on average in the 2009 season. The next best is Charl Langeveldt for KKR with 3.75RPO.
Most Points – RCB qualified as the number 1 team in the 2011 season by claiming just 19 points, which is the least compared to all other seasons for the team qualifying as number 1. The most was attained by by RR, DD, CSK and KXIP. They claimed 22 points in the 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons respectively.
Most Matches Umpired – Kumar Dharmasena holds the record for officiating in the most number of matches over all the seasons of the IPL, starting his IPL career from 2009 to 2014. He has officiated in 63 matches so far and is followed by Simon Taufel at 55 (2009 – 2013) and S Ravi at 53 (2009 – 2014).
