99 hundreds and 16 grand slams in one frame |
On one end we have a man who brings a nation to an absolute standstill whenever he takes the willow in his hand- a man whose innings is so sublime an intersection of passion and expertise that it brings shine to the statistics. At the other end we have a guy who is an absolute magician on court-a man who owns the finest sets of statistics the world of tennis has ever seen, a player whose swooping one handed backhand mesmerizes the audience.Yes, i am indeed talking about two legends who come from two different sporting arena- Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar and Roger Federer.
As an youngster, the ‘Master Blaster’ idolised the tennis legend John Mcenroe. Moving around with a racquet in hand and a headband which screamed out his passion for the sport, he was eager pursue a career in the field of tennis. But influenced by his brother Ajit Tendulkar and coach Ramakant Achrekar, Tendulkar took to cricket and blossomed into a copybook great. A player who is the role model for billions of cricket fanatics today. But as the saying goes: “FIRST LOVE NEVER DIES” and so has been the case with the little master. Even after spending more than two decades at the top of the gentleman’s game, he adores his first love i.e tennis. Sachin’s liking for the game has time and again drawn him to one of the most prestigious grand slams in tennis- The Wimbledon. Recently the Master Blaster accompanied by his wife Anjali Tendulkar was in attendance at the All England Club Royal Box to witness tennis legend Roger Federer in action against David Nalbandian. After the match got over (Federer won in straight sets), Sachin even met Federer and both chatted for an hour or so. The little Master along with his wife even had dinner with the Swiss Legend. We all know that it takes a lot of painstaking effort to get the better of Sachin but the legendary tennis star managed to do just that with his knowledge about the gentleman’s game.
Tendulkar later tweeted “Spent an hour with Roger Federer, chatting on the balcony of the Wimbledon Royal box. What a humble guy! And by the way, he knows a lot about cricket!!” Even Roger Federer talked about his meeting with Tendulkar on his FB page where he typed a status message which read thus “Today was a special day, played a good match and had the chance to catch up with the great Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar.”
This certainly was a moment to savour- a moment when legends from two different sports came together and had a chat .Indeed it was a picture perfect moment for the shutter-bugs.
