Tributes are paid to those whom we adore, idolise and respect. They have influenced our lives immensely and occupy a special place in our hearts. Their personality is the one we all dream of and in their aura everyone stands mesmerized. The name of the personality I am talking about does not merely suggest a player but a Demigod of Indian Cricket. His name shook opponents and excited supporters.
His name rose from the dusty streets of Mumbai to every corner of the world where the game is played. The game of cricket felt lucky as it was graced by him. His name is Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. He is a legend and arguably the finest batsman the world has ever seen, but what touches our heart is that he is the nicest person you will ever come across.
Sachin was born in a middle-class family in Mumbai. He was introduced to Cricket when his brother took him to his then coach, Ramakant Achrekar. From there Sachin started to gain popularity as a prodigy. Like every prodigy is bestowed with huge expectations, Sachin was no different. He delivered on people's hopes and justified his talent. But this is not the only reason for his high stature. His longevity in the game, his consistency and his ability to contribute match winning knocks were the other prime reasons. The passion he had for Cricket showed in his performances. Whether be it his tennis elbow injury or his father's loss, nothing stopped him.
Sachin did not only play Cricket, he lived Cricket. One can imagine Cricket without Sachin but not Sachin without Cricket. Even success did not have a toll on Sachin. His supporters forget their birthdays but celebrated his. His rivals treated him as a God, but he took himself to be a player who served the game with his whole heart and had a satisfying career. He proved to one and all that you can stay on top of your game for more than two decades.
I still remember the time when Sachin bid farewell to Cricket. Even the strongest person with the slightest sympathy had tears and so did I.
He showed what happens when talent meets hard work. He motivated us to make a wholehearted effort towards our passion so even stones thrown at us could be turned into milestones. He showed that being a nice human being is most satisfying. In short, he showed us the way to lead our lives.
I could go on and on praising Sachin, but even words will fall short. When one dreams of having a career in Cricket, they dream like the one he had. We will have players, we will have records, but we will never have another Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.
"Sachin you were a treat for the eyes and the person we will idolise. For all the golden memories - Thank you Sachin"
