Du Plessis has played 36 T20Is for South Africa, scoring 1129 runs at an average of 37.63 and at a strike rate of 132.97 with a 56-ball knock of 119 against West Indies at Johannesburg being his highest T20 score.
Faf took over the reins of the T20 captaincy from De Villiers following the 2012 World T20 and became South Africa’s permanent T20 skipper, leading the team in 32 matches and winning 19 of them. Thus, Du Plessis is the most successful South African T20 skipper in terms of the number of wins.
He led South Africa to the semi-finals of the 2014 World T20 where they were beaten by India. He also led South Africa at the 2016 World T20.
