The wheels have been set in motion for former India captain Anil Kumble to start his tenure as coach of the senior team. His first act seems to have been to reach out to seniormost players ODI and T20I captain MS Dhoni and Test captain Virat Kohli.
After addressing the media, where he spoke about his plans, Kumble took to Twitter to thank past and present cricketers who wished him well on the appointment. He is on a one-year contract with the team, the short tenure being owing to the fact that he does not have prior experience of being head coach of an international team.
He has said that he would like to adopt the low-key approach to the job followed by John Wright and Gary Kirsten, and his man-managing skills suggest that he shall get along well with captain of the future Virat Kohli.
Kohli is somebody who Kumble will be working with closely over the next year, as a period of Tests are the next assignments for Team India.
The 45-year-old said on the occasion of his appointment that he was honoured and excited to be returning to the Indian dressing room in a different capacity. It shall soon be seen soon if Kumble’s era is a long one in Indian cricket history or whether it is as temporary as his time as captain.
