Now that the Test series between India and South Africa is all but over, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the squad for the 3-match One Day International series which will follow the Tests. The squad has quite a few surprises.
Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh’s names are not featured on the list. It is now widely known that Gautam Gambhir has injured himself in the ongoing test match. With Gambhir left out with a groin injury, it will be a real test for the Indians to perform without their most consistent batsman of the last two years.
The BCCI gave out a wacky comment on Harbhajan not being listed. According to the BCCI spokespersons, Harbhajan has opted out of the series due to ‘personal reasons’.
Yuvraj Singh’s name was not considered as he has not yet recovered from his wrist injury.
It is surprising to hear that Ravichandra Ashwin has been given a chance to make his debut in the series as a replacement for Harbhajan Singh.
The elder of the Pathans brothers, Yusuf Pathan has been recalled into the team; the 26-year-old has been in prime form in the domestic season with a double hundred under his belt.
Another all-rounder, Abhishek Nayar has also been recalled into the team for his run of good form in the domestic circuit.
India will play the South Africans in Jaipur, Gwalior and Ahmedabad.
Here goes the squad -
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain)
Dinesh Karthik
Suresh Raina
Yusuf Pathan
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravichandra Ashwin
Zaheer Khan
Ashish Nehra
Sudeep Tyagi
Praveen Kumar
Abhishek Nayar
