Sri Lanka walks into the 2023 edition as the reigning Asia Cup champions after they won the 2022 tournament. That was despite the fact that they finished second in their group behind Afghanistan, after winning one and losing the other of their two games.

However, they won all three games in the Super Four for maximum points before beating Pakistan in the final by 23 runs in a commanding victory. So much so, that Wanindu Hasaranga was handed the Player of the Series award at the end.

India were the defending champions in Asia Cup 2022 as the Men in Blue won the previous edition of the tournament which happened in the ODI format in 2018.

Playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India topped Group B and Super Fours points table to qualify for the final. They defeated Bangladesh by three wickets in the final to win the Asia Cup.

Asia Cup Winners - From 1984 to 1997

The Asia Cup happened six times between 1984 and 1997. The inaugural edition was won by India in 1984, while Sri Lanka won the second edition in 1986. India won the next three Asia Cup competitions that happened in 1988, 1990/91 and 1995. The 1997 edition was won by Sri Lanka with a win against India in the finals.
