There might be a little more good in Glenn McGrath being named Director of the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai; he will be coaching young Australian quicks in the near future. Upcoming youngsters Josh Hazlewood, Kurtis Patterson and Gurinder Sandhu will all be training under the pace legend himself to prevent a repetition of Australia’s disastrous tour of India.

Hazlewood has already played a few one-day internationals for Australia, and would have probably also made his Test debut had it not been for his injuries; he has faced a lot of setbacks on the fitness front with back and foot injuries. Sandhu and Patterson, on the other hand, have made their marks fairly early in their careers. Patterson became the youngest centurion in the history of the Sheffield Shield after he scored a sensational 157 off 189 balls on his debut, which included three sixes and 22 fours. The pacer of Indian origin, Gurinder Sandhu, was awarded the Steve Waugh Medal last year – which is given to the best domestic player from NSW. In his two first-class games, he has notched 14 wickets at an average of 11.85, which included a 5-wicket haul on debut.

The players are excited to be training under the legend of Australian cricket, and hope to make the most of this opportunity. They will train until June 26.

”India is so different to Australia in nearly every way – the climate, the conditions, the sheer amount of people there, the food, and then the playing conditions as well. ‘Hopefully when and if they do move up to play for Australia, they’ve had a little bit of experience in India and it’s not such a shock culturally and the transition is a bit smoother,” McGrath told the Sydney Morning Herald.
