Similar to the 2014 England series, Virat Kohli had a horrid run down under in Australia. The 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) saw the veteran Indian batter struggle to score runs consistently. However, what was more alarming and concerning, was the mode of his dismissals.
The 'outside off-stump' demons came back to haunt Virat Kohli, as he failed to overcome what seems to have become an age-old weakness now. He was dismissed multiple times in a similar fashion, going after outside off-stump deliveries, only to edge them behind.
Getting caught behind repeatedly in the same manner meant that he received severe criticism. The 2024-25 Australia series takes one back to the 2014 England tour, where Virat Kohli faced similar problems. In 10 innings, he scored just 134 runs, averaging a dismal 13.40.
While his performance in the 2024-25 BGT draws flashbacks from the 2014 England tour, in which series did he have more caught behind dismissals?
Virat Kohli's caught behind dismissals in Australia 2024-25 series

He was dismissed eight times and all of these were caught behind dismissals. He was caught in the slip cordon in the first innings in Perth. In Brisbane, he was caught behind by the wicketkeeper while in Melbourne, the right-hander was caught once in the slips and once by the keeper. In Sydney, he was caught in the slips in both innings.
Therefore, the former Indian captain was caught behind eight times in the 2024-25 Australia series.
Kohli's caught behind dismissals in England 2014
During the England tour in 2014, Virat Kohli played 10 innings from five Tests. He was dismissed all ten times in the series. However, he was caught only seven out of the 10 times he was sent back to the hut.
In the first Test in Nottingham, he was caught once in the slips. The Lord's Test saw him being caught once by the wicket-keeper. In Southampton, he was caught once in the slips and once by the keeper while he was caught twice in the slips in Manchester. Finally, he was caught once in the slips at The Oval.

That said, while the difference is not a lot, Kohli had more caught behind dismissals in the recent series against Australia.
