Ravichandran Ashwin was terrific for India in the first Test match. Due to his hard work, economical and continuous bowling from one end, Kohli was able to rotate his three fast bowlers from the other end and hence gave them sufficient rest to remain fresh and deliver for India when needed.

Further, Ashwin also contributed with the bat in the first innings when helped to stitch a 50-run partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara to help India reach a good total. His bowling figures of 3/57 in the first innings and 3/92 were one of the crucial reasons for India's victory.

Unfortunately for India, Ashwin has been ruled out of the 2nd Test due to an abdominal strain on his left side. Ravindra Jadeja is expected to replace him in front of Kuldeep Yadav due to his ability to contribute both with the bat as well as the ball.
