Bairstow being bowled off a no ball could cost the Ashes: Ryan Harris

Jonny Bairstow being dismissed off a no ball could potentially cost Australia the Ashes, felt Ryan Harris.

With England being 168/4 and Bairstow on 21, getting him there could have well put Australia in the drivers seat. But as it turned out, Bairstow added 46 runs more to his tally and Australia had to wait a further 27 overs to get the breakthrough.

Peter Siddle bowled the perfect delivery that moved in a touch and bowled Bairstow. But unfortunately for the bowler and the whole of Australia, the ball was called illegal as he had overstepped the line.

“There is no excuse for it. The line is there for a reason,” Harris said.

“It is not acceptable. It cost us a lot of runs today and potentially it can cost the Ashes. The guys work hard on it in training so we don’t get into any bad habits.”

Understandably, coach Darren Lehman was not a happy man when the team went in to lunch, added Harris.

With the second Test also seemingly headed towards being a close affair, one feels that Ryan Harris might have a point here.
