Mahela Jayawardene is definitely one of the most reliable batsmen to have ever played for Sri Lanka. Together with Kumar Sangakkara, he shouldered the Lankan batting burden for a large part of his playing career.

He played in 448 matches and scored 12650 runs at an average of 33.38, accompanied by 19 hundreds and 77 fifties. Mahela is third on the list of highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka in one-day internationals.

Jayawardene, who was very consistent with the bat, got out without troubling the scorers on 28 occasions in 418 ODI innings.
