BBL: Melbourne Renegades confirm they will not re-sign Chris Gayle for next season

Chris Gayle equalled the record for fastest fifty in his last Big Bash Game

Christopher Henry Gayle, who calls himself the “World Boss”, was roped into a controversy in January this year, during the Big Bash League. The Melbourne Renegades Star, received a lot of flak from people around the world, for his inappropriate comments to a Ten Network’s journalist.

Post the incident, Melbourne Renegades have now confirmed that they will not be re-signing the West Indian for the next season of the Big Bash. Although Gayle did not have a great run in the league this year, having a below par performance, scoring 260 runs at 32.50 in eight matches, he equalled the record for the fastest T20 fifty in his final innings for the Renegades last summer.

"We’ll unveil our international signings soon and Chris isn’t part of those plans," Coventry told News Corp.

In an interview with McLaughlin, Gayle happened to be a little over-friendly with the journalist and went on to ask her out for a drink on national television. He even said “Don’t blush Baby”, which was not taken in good taste.

Gayle was fined $10,000 for his inappropriate behaviour and was condemned by Cricket Australia. His other critics, including Chris Rogers, Ian Chappell and Andrew Flintoff have earned the West Indian's scorn in his recently launched Autobiography.

It was a joke blown out of proportion: Gayle

Gayle has included a lot of incidents in his autobiography, taking a dig at the three of them. Flintoff had expressed his disapproval of the incident on Twitter, saying Gayle made himself look like a chop with his behaviour.

That statement obviously did not go down well with the ‘Big-Hitter’, and he has responded with no apprehensions, saying,

"This coming from a man who admitted he took Viagra during a Test match. The only chop Freddie knows is when he used to bowl short to me and I would chop him past backward point for four," Gayle wrote of Flintoff.

Chris was made to apologize to McLauglin, although he has always maintained that the statement was said as a joke, and the incident was blown out of proportion.

The big man is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League and has shown his brilliance only in patches, with figures of 142 runs in 8 matches and taking two wickets.

Tonight, Bangalore face the Gujarat Lions in the first qualifier at Chinnaswamy stadium, the winner of which directly qualifies for the finals on 29 May.
