When the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League started back in 2008, it changed the world of cricket for various reasons. The Indian domestic franchise league became the biggest audience spectacle in the world with a mixture of sports and entertainment.

Till date 11 teams have participated in the eight editions of the tournament and two new teams will feature in this year’s competition. Only eight teams will feature in this year’s completion including newcomers Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions.
The previous eight titles have been shared among only five teams with three teams winning it twice. Only Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians have lifted the trophy in IPL history so far.
The history of IPL champions
Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. The second edition was held in South Africa where Deccan Chargers emerged as champions.
The following year IPL was back in India and Chennai Super Kings won their first title and they made it two in a row in 2011. Then it was the Kolkata Knight Riders, who won their first title in 2012 by defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final.
In 2013, the Mumbai-based franchise Mumbai Indians laid their hands on their first title. Kolkata won the title the following year with a superb all-round performance.
Mumbai Indians are the current defending IPL champions as they won the title last year by defeating Chennai Super Kings.
When it comes to the best IPL team till date, there are two main statistical factors to judge like titles and winning percentage.
