Simmons was signed by the Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Jalaj Saxena in 2014. Prior to his arrival, the Mumbai Indians did not register victory in their first four games. That was the first ever IPL stint for the Trinidadian. In the eight matches, Simmons scored 394 runs at a strike-rate of 135.39 with his highest score being 100* against the Kings XI Punjab. Simmons, who scored three half-centuries and a century in 2014 amassed a mammoth 43 fours and 14 sixes in the seventh edition of the IPL.
The Mumbai Indians qualified to the playoffs where they lost to the Chennai Super Kings eventually in the Eliminator at Brabourne Stadium. Simmons represented Mumbai Indians for four seasons (2014-2017) and won two titles with them under Rohit Sharma- in 2015 and 2017. Overall, in 29 IPL matches, he has scored 1079 runs at a strike-rate of 126.64 across four seasons for the Mumbai Indians. Surprisingly, he went unsold in this year’s auctions with a base price of INR 1.5 crore.
