Sri Lankan cricket had their moment of resurgence when they captured the 1996 World Cup. Arjuna Ranatunga, Sanath Jayasuriya, Arvinda De Silva, Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan were the chief contributors and uplifted Sri Lankan cricket. The same was carried on by Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis, Tilakaratne Dilshan, Lasith Malinga and many other talented cricketers once the former greats walked into the horizon.
