Bowling fast comes naturally to me, says Varun Aaron

Varun Aaron hopes to hit a good run of form in the 2015/16 Ranji Trophy

Varun Aaron had always showed promise to become India's prime fast bowler since his Test debut around four years ago. Unfortunately, he played for the Indian Test team only seven times in the span of four years.

His lack of appearances in the Test squad could be due to persistent injury troubles rather than not playing well. Aaron hopes to continue making significant contributions in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. He was speaking to TOI on Monday, after the second round of Jharkhand's Ranji match against Saurashtra.

The Indian bowling attack has always had pacers who came in showing a lot of potential bowling at high speeds. However, due to various factors, the bowlers had to make a trade-off by reducing their pace in order to extend their careers. Aaron, on the other hand, feels confident he can continue to deliver consistently at high speeds.

“Bowling fast is something that, thankfully, comes naturally to me. I don't make a conscious effort to bowl fast. It's just like how swing bowlers swing the ball without making a conscious effort. Similarly, I bowl fast. I am not going to change any of that, but at the same time it really depends on conditions that are available to us,” Aaron said.

Aaron missed the first round of Jharkhand's Ranji Trophy match against Services due to India A commitments. Aaron put in a decent performance, picking up 4/45 in the first innings.

In the second match against Saurashtra, Aaron bemoaned how the Rajkot pitch did not assist fast bowlers at all. He will be hoping that he can continue his India A form in the upcoming Ranji games for his Jharkhand.

“The track in Rajkot was a rank turner and there was little in it for the fast bowlers. So, I am keen on doing well in the next game against Kerala,” he said.

The Indian bowling line-up has been under a lot of fire lately, with their ODI slog-overs bowling especially criticised. Aaron will be keen to do well in the domestic games that are forthcoming and will be hoping for a call-up to the national squad at the earliest.

“I have just been sticking to the basics, trying to get back my rhythm. I am feeling good at the moment. I am just looking to get some match time. I have had a good run of being fit which has really helped me,” Aaron said.

The Indian selectors will be keeping an eye on Aaron's performances while Aaron will be looking forward to hitting a good run of form to help them make an easy decision.
