Arguably the most successful Indian movie of the 21^st century, Lagaan was India’s entry to the Oscars as it received a nomination in the category of “Best Foreign Language Feature.” The movie follows a group of Champaner villagers led by a feisty young man who challenges the British to a game of cricket to get their land tax waived. Their biggest hurdle was that no one knew how to play the game. Directed by Ashutosh Gwarikar and starring Aamir Khan, the movie has become one of the all-time classics of Indian cinema.

Lagaan received immense success at the box office and was lauded by critics all around the world.
