BPL Day 5 Round up: Shakib helps Riders to a thrilling win; Mustafizur's three wickets guide Dynamites to the victory

Shakib Al Hasan produced a captain’s performance

In the ninth match of Bangladesh Premier League, Rangpur Riders trumped Sylhet Super Stars by 6 runs in a low scoring match.

Riders’ captain, Shakib-al-Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first. The openers Lendl Simmons and Soumya Sarkar managed only 19 runs together as the latter fell in the third over.

Simmons followed him a couple of overs later. The skipper Shakib held the innings together and scored 33 runs, though, at a reasonably slow pace. He was the highest scorer for his team and Thisara Perera was the second highest scorer with 21 runs.

The team managed a total of 109 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Mohammad Shahid being the pick of the bowlers with a figure of 4-1-12-4.

Super Stars’ innings started even badly as Josh Cobb went for a golden duck in the first over. Munaweera was the next to depart in the 4th over with a total of 31 runs on the board only.

Mominul Haque who walked in at number three was the highest scorer for the team with 29 runs, but he lost his wicket at a time when his partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim was taking the team towards victory.

The rest of the team fell like a pack of cards as they were bundled for 103 runs by the last over with Rahim being the unbeaten batsman with 25 runs. Shakib picked three wickets and was named the Man-of-the-Match.â??
