British cricketer killed in armed robbery in Trinidad

A 22-year-old aspiring British cricketer named Adrian St John is understood to have been shot dead in Trinidad on the night of 10 April.

According to local media reports, the cricketer was attacked after he stopped his car to pick up his friends. He was shot as he tried to drive away after being robbed.

The youngster was in the Caribbean on holiday.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said, "We are in contact with authorities following the death of a British national in Trinidad and are ready to provide consular assistance."

St John previously played for the south London-based Alleyn Cricket Club for five years. He was also the captain of the West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle’s Cricket Academy.

After the dreadful incident, Gayle tweeted.

His friends have also taken to Twitter to pay tributes to him.
