Amidst the buzz that the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after successfully organising the first phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 7, could host the Champions League T20 (CLT20) 2014, Sanjay Patel, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, has revealed that the tournament will take place in India.
Confirming the CLT20 governing council’s decision, Patel said: "The venues and the dates will soon be finalised but it will be played in India.”
If reports by ESPNcricinfo are to be believed, the tournament is set to commence on Septemeber 7 and the venues will be decided based on the regional weather forecast of the states, as some parts of the country usually see heavy rains during the time period.
The champions and the runners-up of the local T20 leagues from India, Australia and South Africa gain an automatic qualification, while the winners of the other major T20 leagues around the world will have to qualify via a qualification round, which will take place just ahead of the tournament proper.
