Port Elizabeth, December 25 (IANS)

West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin has said his team must change their mental approach ahead of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at the St. George's Park here on Friday.

The tourists were beaten by an innings and 220 runs by South Africa in the first Test but Ramdin said the gulf between the sides was not technical.

"It was more mental we would say, because a couple of players got starts in the first innings and a few more in the second," Ramdin was quoted as saying by timeslive.com Thursday.

He said that his team's batsman, who all got starts in the first Test, must capitalise on the foundation they got in their innings.

"The guys need to make 70, 80 or a big hundred by carrying on, so the team won't be under pressure."

Ramdin also said that any decent performance from the Caribbean side against the top-ranked team in the world would help restore confidence among players.

"Playing against the No.1 team in the world you want to do well. When you play well against them you get a lot of credit, so hopefully the guys will look deep into themselves and pull out a magical performance," he said.
