Whenever the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gets written, it won't be complete without the mention of the utter carnage, madness, and flamboyance that Christopher Henry Gayle brought to the T20 league in these nascent years.
Having lit up the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 by smashing the first-ever T20I hundred (vs South Africa), Gayle was expected to wreak havoc at the Eden Gardens after he was picked up by SRK's Kolkata Knight Riders during the inaugural auction. The champion cricketer played his final game in the 2021 season, finishing as the 7th highest run-getter in the tournament's history.

Chris Gayle IPL teams from 2009-21
Caribbean star started his IPL journey in the second season with Kolkata Knight Riders where he played for two seasons, he was bought by KKR in the inaugural season but due to the national tour, Chris Gayle missed the entire season. Chris Gayle went unsold at the 2011 mega-auction. Little did anyone know what was about to ensue at the time, least of all the Knight Riders. An injury to RCB's Dirk Nannes mid-way through the season opened up an opportunity for Gayle, and what followed next was absolute mayhem.
The 2017 season proved to be a nadir for both Gayle and RCB. The West Indian managed just 200 runs in 9 matches and was eventually released ahead of the mega-auction.
He was lapped up by Punjab Kings in the auction, where, despite not being at his best, he still managed to belt out back-to-back impressive campaigns in 2018 & 2019. The universe Boss ended by playing for Punjab Kings till 2021.
