Chris Lynn thinking about change after another shoulder injury

Chris Lynn has had reconstructive shoulder surgery twice in his career

Injuries are part of sports but in Chris Lynn’s case, it’s turning out to be the worst enemy. The Queensland batsmen suffered an injury when he dislocated his shoulder during a routine fielding drill before the fifth and final ODI against Sri Lanka in Kandy.

The injury marked another devastating story in Lynn’s Cricketing career having injured the same shoulder in each of the past two years. Though the persistent injuries put his career in jeopardy, the 26-year-old feels the latest injury is a “best in worst case scenario” and added that he has to follow a new approach to avoid further setbacks. “I never want to get to that stage (where I’m forced to retire). So I think at some point, whether that’s from now until I do it again.

“I’ve really got to be measured in what I do at training. In a game with the adrenaline up, I’ve never actually hurt it in a game. You might only dive once or twice in a game whereas at training you’re getting on the ground 20 or 30 times. The numbers are up and the chances (of getting injured) increase. So for me, I’m definitely going to have to pull it back, but I still want to train to the best of my ability,” said Lynn.

Chris Lynn toured India last year with the “A” squad when a full-length dive in training resulted in a dislocation of the same shoulder. He came back strongly in BBL earlier this year and scored 378 runs at a blistering strike rate of 173.39.

Although Lynn made some exceptional comebacks in the domestic circuits, the powerful right-hander says that players are always tentative when they return from serious injuries.

“It is quite daunting when you’re injured and you’re coming back .. there’s always that doubt in your mind that something might happen. So it does take a little bit to settle back in because in your mind you know you’ve got the skill, but then there’s that.. little guy on your shoulder saying ‘don’t swing at the ball too hard because this could happen or that could happen,” quipped Lynn

After the breathtaking BBL Campaign, Lynn failed to repeat his heroics in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders. However, he resumed his exceptional form in the Carribean Premier League, where he topped the leaderboard with 457 runs at a strike rate of 133.83.
