Hobart Hurricanes’ Ben Laughlin has been officially censured by the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) authorities for breaching the tournament’s Code of Behaviour during his side’s semi-final loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.
"Laughlin admitted to Level 1 offence (Article 1.3) of showing dissent at an umpire's decision," a media advisory from the organisers of CLT20 said.
“For Level 1 breaches of the CLT20 Code of behaviour, the match referee's decision is final and binding,” it added.
The Hurricanes, who were featuring in their first ever CLT20, had won 3 out of their 4 matches in the group stages before bowing out to a well-oiled Knight Riders side in the semi-final yesterday.
They posted 140 on the board from their 20 overs after choosing to bat, thanks largely to Shoaib Malik’s 66* off 46 balls. But the total was nowhere near sufficient as the Gautam Gambhir-led side cruised to a comfortable 7-wicket victory with the help of Jacques Kallis, who top-scored for the IPL outfit with 54, and Manish Pandey.
