It’s been eight weeks since the IPL found its new champion, in the process providing entertainment to millions of ardent cricket fans throughout the globe, but now the CPL is ready to take over the grand stage. The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is back in its fourth edition, bowling off on the 30th of June.
The first match will see newbies Trinbago Knight Riders face off against the St. Lucia Zouks.

6 teams will battle it out over the next month or so to lay their hands on the CPL trophy. Defending champions Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel have been renamed as the Trinbago Knight riders after Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan purchased stakes in this outfit.
Following its success in the previous editions, CPL has now been recognized as one of the top T20 leagues in the world along with the Big bash and the IPL.
After West Indies cricket’s triumph at the World T20 event for both men and women, the CPL has become an attractive option for many international cricketing superstars. There is a feel-good factor about West Indies cricket which has seen top players like AB de Villiers, Faf Du Plessis, Shakib Al Hasan among others to sign lucrative deals with the 6 franchises.
In another new beginning for CPL, the 2016 edition will see six matches of the group stages being played in The United States of America at the Lauderhill Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This will in addition to the six venues in St.Kitts, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana, St.Lucia and Port of Spain which are the home grounds for each of the six franchises.
There will be plenty of star power that will draw crowds to the 10,000-capacity stadium in Florida across the 4 days for the matches featuring the six CPL teams.
"We are delighted to announce fixture information of the ground-breaking Florida leg of CPL which represents an exciting new chapter for the tournament. Supporters will have the opportunity to see all six teams in action twice over four action-packed days which will showcase some of the best West Indies and international talent on display," Damien O'Donohoe, the chief executive officer of CPL, said.
Each of the six teams the Trinbago Knight Riders, St.Lucia Zouks, St.Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Barbados Tridents, Jamaica Tallawahs and the Guyana Amazon Warriors have made big moves in the 2016 draft picking up big international stars in addition to the local talent.
The off the field recruitment by these teams has been strong as well with the likes of Robin Singh, Jacques Kallis, Eric Simmons joining the teams as either head coaches or mentors. The formidable squads and backroom staff will ensure close contests throughout the duration of the tournament.

The group stages conclude on the 31st of July after each team has played the other 5 teams twice. The last match of the group stages will see the Trinbago Knight Riders go up against the St.Kitts Nevis Patriots at the new venue in Florida, USA.
The first of the playoff games will be played on the 3rd of August followed by the second and the third playoff games on consecutive days. The tournament concludes with the finals being played on the 7th of August. The venues for the Playoff’s and the Finals are yet to be decided.
