Australia seized control of the 1st Test match at Brisbane against New Zealand with a commanding display on day 3. After bundling out the Kiwis for 317 in the 1st innings, they decided not to enforce the follow-on and bat again. David Warner continued from where he left in the first innings and this time was joined by his opening partner Joe Burns. The duo put on a huge stand with the right-hander scoring his maiden Test hundred. They ended the day with a lead of 503 and with two days to go, they are in pole position to win this Test. Here are the best images from the day’s play:
#1 Plenty of reasons to smile
Australian duo Mitchell Johnson and Usman Khawaja pose for the cameras during the day’s play. No wonder they are happy as their side dominated the Kiwis all day long.
#2 The lone bright spot
Kane Williamson stood tall amidst all the ruins for New Zealand. And it was one of the most impressive Test centuries one has witnessed in recent times.
#3 Timber!
Southee despite getting injured came out to bat. He swung the bat hard and got some runs. He didn’t last long though as his off-stump was uprooted by Mitchell Starc.
#4 Well played mate
Williamson’s hundred was well appreciated by the crowd and players alike. He is being congratulated by the opposition skipper Steven Smith after he became the last man to be dismissed.
#5 A fan\'s moment
Boult had a disappointing outing and would love to forget it soon. But he ensured this fan would remember ‘this moment’ for a very long time to come.
#6 One hot day indeed
McCullum is seen cooling himself down as it was one hot day at the Gabba. And the Aussie openers only piled on the agony by scoring at more than 6 an over.
#7 Leaps for the 2nd time
The most famous leap in world cricket was back for the second time in this Test as Dave became only the 3rd batsman to register two hundreds in the same Test for the 3rd time.
#8 Hero of the day
But the day belonged to Joe Burns. He scored his maiden Test hundred and he brought it up with a couple of sixes. Here is congratulated by his teammates on his way back.
#9 Sums up Australia\'s approach
Australia were in no mood to consolidate in the 2nd innings. They came out with a positive mindset and took the New Zealand attack to the cleaners. This dive further demonstrates that they were always looking for runs.
#10 A scenic view of the Gabba
Despite the soaring temperatures, rain did make a brief appearance at the Gabba forcing the players off the field. But we were back to business shortly.
