Phillip Hughes sadly passed away last month

Melbourne, Dec 26 – Cricket Australia (CA) has trademarked the phrase "63 not out" in memory of batsman Phillip Hughes, who died after being struck by a bouncer in a Sheffield Shield match last month.

He was batting on 63 when he was fatally injured.

CA termed the move "defensive" to prevent people cashing in on the tragic death of Hughes.

"Cricket Australia registered the trademark in conjunction with Phillip's management purely as a defensive registration to prevent others trying to exploit Phillip's memory," a CA spokesman was quoted as saying by The West Australian on Friday.

"There was some evidence of that starting to occur which is why we have taken this action."

CA's main concern was unlicensed memorabilia.

The West Australian reported there was unlicensed Hughes merchandise being sold on online auction sites including t-shirts, stickers and memorial trophies.
