#3. MS Dhoni reveals reasons for handing away captaincy role
It was a whirlwind decision when Dhoni decided to step down as captain for the Indian team. The maverick wicketkeeping batsman had led India to one each of the T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup, and the Champions Trophy as well, and hence he did not feel any regrets to place someone else at the helm. As far as the decision to hand over the reins to Kohli is concerned, Dhoni still feels that the time was right.
He was talking in a motivational program organized by the CISF. At the venue, he was asked a range of questions, starting from his decision to quit captaincy to Team India's performance in England.
About leaving captaincy, Dhoni said: "I resigned from captaincy because I wanted the new captain to get enough time for preparing a team before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Selecting a strong team without giving the new captain appropriate time isn’t possible. I believe that I left the captaincy at the right time."
Current skipper Virat Kohli has evolved to second in the list of most successful captain in Test Cricket already, and he is well on the rise to equal or bigger successes in other formats as well. The side's next big target would be the upcoming Cricket World Cup in 2019.
