Mayank Agarwal's 58 runs in 99 deliveries impressed former New Zealand all-rounder turned commentator Scott Styris. Styris mentioned how Agarwal set a perfect example for other Indian batsmen through his composed head at the crease while facing the New Zealand quicks.

He explained that Agarwal respected the conditions well and also put the bad balls away which deserved to be hit. According to him, keeping things simple in New Zealand was the key for any batsman and Agarwal followed suit.

"For a player with limited international experience, he showed his teammates how to bat in New Zealand. Anytime he got a half volley he would stroke it away, anytime he got width he put it away and that is simple batting in New Zealand. You have to wait, when the conditions are helping fast bowlers, you wait for width and you wait for overpitched deliveries. It is that simple, it is nothing more than that. It was outstanding."
