Australian cricketing great Richie Benaud is in immense pain after an undiagnosed back fracture which was not detected by doctors after the former Aussie captain rammed his 1963 Sunbeam Alpine vintage car as he hit a parked car and then crashed into a small brick fence last October in Sydney.
Bernaud, now 83, was then taken to Prince Alfred Hospital where he was treated for injuries to his sternum and shoulder before the smashed vertebrae was finally detected, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.
“We are hoping that medication will fix things,” Benaud’s wife Daphne told The Sunday Telegraph. “The vertebrae is not healing as well as we hoped. He is really in a lot of back pain.”
“It was maybe a couple of days later that it was picked up,” she added. “Of course we are all hoping he will be making a full recovery. But it is taking a lot longer than expected.”
