Round up: Cricket South Africa awards 2014

On Wednesday, the fourth of June, Cricket South Africa paid tribute to their cricketers in the 2014 annual CSA awards. The night brought the biggest names in South African cricket together, celebrating another successful year for the Proteas.

South African ODI captain AB de Villiers swept the awards, winning four, including the biggest award of the night: the CSA Cricketer of the Year. The award ceremony also felicitated the two South African stalwarts bidding farewell to the game: former South African middle order batsman Ashwell Prince and ex-South African skipper Graeme Smith. Both announced their retirement from all forms of cricket in March this year.

The nominations and winners go as follows:

Domestic:

Sunfoil Series Cricketer of the Season:

Nominees: Justin Ontong, Dane Piedt, Stiaan van Zyl (all Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras).

One-Day Cup Cricketer of the Season:

Domestic T20 Player of the Season:

Coach of the Year:

Domestic Players’ Player of the Season:

This award was picked by all domestic cricketers and no specific nominees were selected.

International:

Women’s Cricketer of the Year:

KFC ‘So Good’ Award:

Nominees: Jacques Kallis (for his performance against India in his final Test match), David Miller (for his half-century for the Dolphins against the Titans in the RamSlam T20 tournament), Dale Steyn (for his winning against New Zealand in the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup)

Winner: Jacques Kallis (For his century v India in his final Test at Kingsmead)

RAM Delivery of the Year:

Nominees: All three deliveries were bowled by Dale Steyn (bowled Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara; bowled Australian wicket-keeper batsman Brad Haddin; final delivery and run out of New Zealand captain Ross Taylor)

Winner: Dale Steyn (For bowling Brad Haddin, second Test match v Australia at St. George’s)

SA Players’ Player of the Year:

The South African players voted for a player, whom they think deserve a accolade.

Winner: AB de Villiers

SA Fans’ Player of the Year:

The South African cricket fans got the chance to vote for any of their favourite Protea players.
