The KFC Big Bash League 05 has certainly caught the imagination of the Australian public and also audiences worldwide through attractive star value and humongous attendance levels never seen before. With the league stages of the tournament now over, let us look at the top five performances in BBL 05. With 35 matches played over 39 days this summer, there is a match and time to suit everyone.

#1 Usman Khawaja

Khawaja scored a magnificent 109*

Usman Khawaja underlined his credentials as a pure batsman in the classic mould with a scintillating 109* of just 70 balls in a nail-biting encounter against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG. The 29-year-old belted 12 boundaries and three towering sixes to provide the Sixers with the foundation to score a competitive 178-6. The knock was really vital for him as he deemed himself match fit and raring to go ahead of the Boxing day Test against the Windies. It was an innings of highest class and substance as he carried his bat throughout the innings.

#2 Travis Head

Travis Head has been picked in the T20 squad to play against India.

Travis Head plundered a century in 53 balls, including 56 from the final 15 deliveries to seal the unlikeliest of victories for the Adelaide Strikers’ New Year's Eve clash with the Sydney Sixers. Head's stunning innings saw him finish on 101 not out from just 56 balls. He was particularly severe on Sean Abbott who ended up conceding 6 sixes off his last 9 balls. Head’s breathtaking knock brought the 46,389-strong crowd to its feet. It was an epic and brutal assault by the young boy from Adelaide.

#3 Chris Lynn

Lynn went berserk as he smashed 75 off just 32 balls at the Gabba.

Chris Lynn went berserk in the Big Bash splash as the Brisbane Heat chased down a massive total of 187 with three balls to spare to beat the Sydney Thunder at a soaked Gabba. In a sensational innings, Lynn hit 75 off just 32 balls, including six sixes and six fours. He smashed 22 runs off four balls during one particularly brutal spell - Gurinder Sandhu the unfortunate bowler, and easily the Thunder’s most expensive. To date, Chris Lynn has been BBL05’s best batsman. Captaining a side that has lost four of its five games, the 25-year-old tops the run-scoring table with 287 at an average of 71.50. And those runs haven’t come slowly either, with Lynn boasting a strike-rate of 175.00. He’s also hit more sixes than any other player in the competition with 19 to his name

#4 Klinger and Marsh

Klinger along with Marsh shared a big opening stand of 171

The Perth Scorchers made history with the first-ever 10-wicket victory in the KFC T20 Big Bash League over the Melbourne Renegades at Etihad Stadium. Player of the Match Michael Klinger (90no from 58 balls) and dropped Test batsman Shaun Marsh (76no from 54 balls) combined for a club record stand, which fell just one short of a BBL record, to lead the Scorchers to triumph. The Renegades set a solid target after posting 4-170 from their 20 overs, although Jason Behrendorff did his best to restrict them with 2-14 from four overs, including 15 dot balls. However, Klinger and Marsh combined for a stunning partnership, getting the visitors home with eight balls to spare and improving their record to 2-1 after three games.

#5 Tim Paine

Tim Paine belted 87 runs of just 58 deliveries and carried his bat as the Hurricanes reached 3 for 184 in their 20 overs against Brisbane Heat at the Bellerive Oval in the Big Bash League. He produced six fours and four explosive sixes in an innings that included a 94-run partnership with star international recruit, Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara (43 off 31). Paine, whose last Twenty20 appearance for Australia was in 2011, was also valuable with the gloves on Tuesday night, taking two catches behind the stumps.
