World Cup 1996: India won by 39 runs
The second quarter-final of the 1996 World Cup witnessed the second encounter of the arch-rivals in the World Cup. Indian skipper Azharuddin won the toss and elected to bat first at the Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore.
India got off to a fantastic start as the Indian openers, NS Sidhu and Sachin Tendulkar, added a 90-run stand between them for the first wicket. With each of the Indian batsmen getting off to a good start, India hoped to set a big total. Sidhu top-scored with 93 and Jadeja contributed with a 25-ball 45 cameo as India set a target of 288 for the defending champions.
Saeed Anwar and Aamir Sohail started things firmly for Pakistan with an 84-run partnership. Javed Miandad and Saleem Malik too got off to good starts, but couldn't help their team chase the total down as Pakistan managed only 248 only 49 overs.
Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble picked up three wickets each as India registered a comfortable 38-run victory.
