Two years ban imposed on CSK and RR

In a massive verdict, the Justice RM Lodha committee has suspended India Cement's franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Jaipur franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) for a period of two years from Indian Premier League (IPL).

While briefing the press Justice Lodha said, "We thought that cricket is bigger than individuals and body of individuals, and the financial loss to players and franchises is not of significance." He added that the cricketers of both CSK and RR are free to join any other franchise.

Ban on Meiyappan and Kundra

Gurunath Meiyappan, a former team official of the CSK franchise, and Raj Kundra, a former co-owner of RR, have been banned by the RM Lodha Panel from any involvement in cricket matches for life.

The committee imposes the following sanctions against Raj Kundra: He has been declared ineligible from participating in cricket for five years, he is suspended for life, he is suspended for life from being involved in the BCCI from any type of cricket matches. These sanctions will run concurrently and will commence from the date of this order.

The committee has also imposed the following sanctions on Gurunath: He is declared ineligible in participating in the sport of cricket for a maximum of five years, he is suspended for life, and he is suspended for life from being involved in any time of cricket matches. These sanctions commence from the date of this order.

The Lodha committee came into force on January 22, 2015, by the order of the Supreme Court after the Mudgal committee submitted its report of the IPL 2013 scandal. The committee comprises retired Chief Justice of India, RM Lodha and retired Supreme Court judges, R Raveendran and Ashok Bhan.
