June 22, Semi Final 1: India vs England, Manchester

The first semi-final of the 1983 World Cup was played between India and the host England at the Old Trafford, Manchester. English skipper Bob Willis won the toss and opted to bat first.
The English openers got the team off to a good start. Graeme Fowler's 33 and Chris Tavare's 32 led them to a 64-run opening partnership. The middle-order batsmen got starts but couldn't execute at them. Lamb scored 29 and Dilley remained unbeaten at 20. Kapil Dev's 3/35 and a couple of wickets each from Binny and Amarnath saw England bowled out for 213.
Chasing a par total, India never seemed to be under pressure. Right from the openers, each of the batsmen made impressive starts. Yashpal Sharma yet again remained the top scorer with his 61 apart from which an unbeaten 51 from Sandeep Patil took India through.
Mohinder Amarnath was awarded the 'Man of the Match' award for figures of 2/27 from 12 overs that helped restrict the England batsmen.
