Daniel Vettori has been ruled out of the upcoming New Zealand vs India series scheduled to start on 19th January.
This comes as a blow to the left arm spinner, who has been recuperating from a back problem for some time now. The former skipper also missed the on-going series against the West Indies with the same complaint.
In a statement, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson confirmed the same.
“Daniel Vettori won’t be considered for the India series and his international cricket career remains under an injury-darkened cloud,” he said.
Hesson went on to say that, he and the recently announced Royal Challengers head coach, Daniel Vettori will take a decision on the player’s future once he returns from Australia.
“I’ve spoken to Dan and he wants to come back from Australia and see how his body is, then have a good catch up with Brendon and I and chat about his future,” Hesson said.
The 35-year old is currently on duty with Brisbane in the Big Bash in Australia.
The Black Cats will announce their squad for the India series on Wednesday, which will have 5 ODIs and 2 Tests.
