Dinesh Karthik IPL Teams from 2008-24
Dinesh Karthik has featured in all 16 seasons of IPL and is all set to feature in the 17th edition of the IPL. He was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) for INR 2.1 crore in IPL 2008 and played in the first three seasons for Daredevils.
Karthik played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2011 before moving to Mumbai Indians in the next season. He was with MI until 2013 when the latter won its first title in IPL. It was the only instance for Karthik to be part of an IPL-winning side throughout his IPL career.
Karthik returned to the Delhi outfit after the franchise shelved out a whopping amount of INR 12.50 crore to acquire the services of the Tamil Nadu player for IPL 2014.
He was released by the Daredevils ahead of the 2015 IPL auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore bought Karthik for INR 10.50 crores but owing to a poor show with the bat - 141 runs in 11 innings - he was dropped from the squad for the next season.
Karthik joined Gujarat Lions under Suresh Raina and played for them from 2016 to 2017 before the franchise was dissolved.
The Tamil Nadu gloveman was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2018 auction for a sum of INR 7.4 crore. He was appointed KKR's new captain after Gautam Gambhir shifted to Delhi Daredevils. After leading the two-time IPL winners for 37 matches in more than two seasons, Karthik stepped down from the captaincy role in the middle of IPL 2020 in UAE. Karthik handed the reins to England's Eoin Morgan.
Karthik was released by KKR ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auction. He got his second stint with RCB after the franchise re-purchased him for INR 5.50 crore.
He made a remarkable turnaround with the bat, scoring 330 runs at a strike rate of 183.33 to earn a surprising call back to the Indian T20I side. However, Karthik’s inconsistency once again came into the limelight as the veteran had a poor run in the 2023 IPL season, managing to score just 140 runs in 13 matches, contrary to his sizzling campaign in the previous IPL season in 2022.
As of March 2024, Karthik has amassed 4516 runs in 242 IPL matches at an average of 25.81 and a strike rate of 132.71 with 20 half-centuries. Karthik's best season with the bat was in IPL 2013 for Mumbai Indians, the wicketkeeper scored 510 runs in 19 matches. He slammed an unbeaten splendorous 97 against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens in IPL 2019 to register his highest score in the premier league.
