England have named their squads for the upcoming Twenty20 and one-day series that they will be playing against Sri Lanka.
Michael Carberry, who had expressed his frustration at being dropped from England’s World T20 squad, has been selected in both squads.
The T20 match between the two teams is scheduled for May 20 and will be held at The Oval in London. It will be followed by a 5-match ODI series which will commence on May 22, with the 5th ODI on June 20 at Lord’s.
This will be England’s first series against a major cricketing nation after the appointment of new coach Peter Moores. England have played only one ODI so far under Moores, a game in which they beat minnows Scotland in a rain-shortened match.
Surprisingly, Ian Bell has kept his place in the T20 squad despite not playing a single T20I in more than three years.
Opening batsman Alex Hales continues to be ignored from the ODI scheme of things, despite his superlative performances in the shortest format of the game.
England T20 squad: Morgan, Ali, Bell, Bopara Bresnan, Buttler, Carberry, Gurney, Hales, Jordan, Root, Tredwell, Woakes.
England ODI squad: Cook, Anderson, Ballance, Bell, Bopara, Bresnan, Buttler, Carberry, Gurney, Jordan, Morgan, Root, Tredwell, Woakes.
