12. Mark Stoneman

England v Pakistan: 1st Test - Day Three
Stoneman was dropped from the Test squad after the first Test against Pakistan in 2018

Stoneman was the 12th opening partner of Cook since the year 2012. Stoneman too had a promising start to his England career.

In 5 innings as an opener against West Indies, Stoneman scored 120 runs at an average of 30. He was selected as an opener in the 2017 Ashes in Australia and in 9 innings, he did not impress much and scored 232 runs with 2 half centuries at an average of 25. 78.

The selectors decided to persist with Stoneman in an away series against New Zealand and he impressed in bits and parts by scoring 2 half centuries at an average of 40.25 in 4 innings.

He was shown the door after the first Test against Pakistan in 2018 when he scored 13 runs in 2 innings. In a career of 11 Tests and 20 innings, Stoneman averages 27.68.
