At 62 for 4, with both Cook and Root in the hut, it looked like India would wrap up proceedings on Day 4. But then came Jos Buttler and together with Ben Stokes, put on 169 runs for the fifth wicket, en route to reaching his maiden Test hundred.
Buttler was picked at the start of the season and after a mixed run of form, delivered with a crucial century which ensured his side did not fold up early.
