Root and Cook fell cheaply again on Monday

Often teams rely upon one or sometimes two players to carry a large chunk of the workload with the bat in hand, while the others revolve around them and ensure team reaches a formidable total.

In the present England line-up, there are two players who do that and both of them failed to deliver on Monday. Joe Root made a fifty in the first innings at Edgbaston but hasn't contributed anything of note since then while Alastair Cook's miserable run with the bat stretched further.
