Instead of him being dropped for the second Test, he was called back in for the third Test and played rest of the matches despite the fact that Prithvi Shaw was called in as the standby opener for last two matches of the series. He played rash shots and gave away his wicket after looking set for a big one.

He failed to score even a single fifty in the series. Shikhar Dhawan's terrible run in overseas Tests continued in the series against England. In the four matches that he has played in this series, he has scored only 162 runs at an average of 23.
