Pakistan end Day-1 on a strong note

#2. Alastair Cook being England's silver lining in their first innings

England v Pakistan: NatWest 1st Test - Day One
Cook scored a fine 70 with the bat

The only good thing about England's first innings was Alastair Cook's 70. The country's highest run scorer in Tests batted beautifully and was hitting boundaries all across the ground.

Cook reached his 55th Test fifty and went on to score 70 before being cleaned up by a brilliant delivery from Mohammad Amir. The former England skipper scored 14 boundaries in his innings.

Cook's dismissal adversely affected England as they lost their remaining five wickets for just 35 runs.

England's most experienced player will be keen to better this performance in the second innings and score his 33rd Test century.
