Former Pakistani cricketer turned politician Imran Khan is all set to boost the troubled region of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), through his political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) by launching a cricket talent hunt programme in the region.
Speaking to reporters at the Peshawar Press Club, PTI sports and culture president Iftikhar Elahi have stated that the party intends to put an end to terrorism and other anti-social activities in the province through the means of sports, as reported in NDTV.
According to Elahi, promising young cricketers will be selected at the provincial level and will receive first hand training personally from the former Pakistan cricket captain.
“PTI Chairman Imran Khan wants to bring the cricket team of K-P at par with the national team,” Elahi said adding that the region has produced some outstanding cricketers, but lacks basic cricketing infrastructure.
PTI general secretary Asif Orakzai said the party will select an under-19 team from Peshawar Sports Complex and train the players for three weeks before forming a final squad which will compete against four other teams from each province and the winning team will fly to Tajikistan to receive further training from ICC cricket hall-of-famer himself.
