Not even a year into international cricket, Herbert Sutcliffe was already beyond 1000 Test runs, and just like Weekes, it took him 9 Tests and 12 innings to get there. Also reaching the milestone in an Ashes Test, Sutcliffe slammed 143 at Melbourne – it was the third of the series with the first one also held at the same venue – as the visitors hammered the hosts by an innings and 29 runs.

That was England's only win in the four Tests played on the tour.
