On expected terms, the “Universe Boss” Christopher Henry Gayle holds the record for registering the fastest ton in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The former Jamaican opener lit up the opening match of the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup when he smashed a 50-ball century against a power packed South African attack in Johannesburg in 2007.
Nine years later, Gayle bettered his own record, as he obliterated the English attack to the tune of a match-winning 47-ball hundred. This is still the fastest hundred scored by a batsman in the tournament’s history.
Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum is at the third spot, thanks to his whirlwind 51-ball ton against Bangladesh in Pallekele in 2012.
Baz went on to score 123, which remains the highest individual score achieved by a batsman in the showpiece event’s history.
The previous edition of the T20 World Cup saw South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw rack up a 52-ball hundred against Bangladesh at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.
The top five is bookended by former Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad, who scored a breathtaking 58-ball hundred against the Asian Tigers in Dhaka in 2014.
Only one Indian has ever scored a hundred in T20 World Cups, Suresh Raina, who features at the sixth spot, thanks to his 59-ball hundred against South Africa at Gros Islet, St. Lucia, in 2010.
